One of the most crucial aspects of a job hunt is your resume writing. A well written resume can help you to stand out from your competitors and can help you to secure job interviews. In order to secure job interviews you need to get the employer to read your resume cover to cover – follow these tips to help you make your resume interesting and to ensure the employers reads the entire content:

Resume Advice and Tips

  • Use layout. If you use a different layout than other candidates then it can help you to get your resume noticed. Many candidates applying for jobs send out a piece of paper with paragraphs and paragraphs of text on. Although this is a standard way of writing a resume, if an employer receives hundreds of resumes like this then they are likely to get bored. Try making yours different by experimenting with layouts, templates and design.
  • Keep it relevant. An employer will only be interested in your resume if it’s relevant to the job role, the company and the industry. To keep the employer reading you should focus on your resume content and highlighting your key skills and achievements. You should highlight previous work experience that is relevant to the job you are applying to and you should also demonstrate the key skills you have that can help you to succeed in the role.
  • Compliment the employer. Complimenting the employer in your resume personal statement or career objective will make your resume more interesting to read. The employer is more likely to read on if they know you are keen to work for them and admire their organisation so reference this in either your resume or cover letter to make them aware of how much you want to be a part of their team.
  • Include hobbies. Referencing your hobbies in your resume can help the employer to visualise you as an individual and it may even be able to help them relate to you. Hobbies can also make you sound more interesting and versatile and can help when it comes to job interview conversation.
