A recent report has suggested that small businesses in America are hiring less.

A survey by Intuit reports that 50, 000 jobs were added in January – 10, 000 less than in December.

72, 000 businesses took part in the survey throughout the winter period.

A report on the BBC website has detailed how 200, 000 new jobs were added to the US economy in December 2011.

The Labor Department said that the unemployment rate (8.5%) is now at a three-year low.

The increase in jobs beat a lot of predictions and vacancies were added across a number of sectors including transportation and retail.

A recent report has revealed that 40% of Americans think their job is very stressful.

The report, by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, has been interpreted by CareerCast who have listed the most stressful jobs in order.
They have taken into account salary, travel, physical effort and a number of other job aspects. A number of jobs have made the list including Firefighters and Pilots.

A recent report on Yahoo has given job seekers in America a boost in confidence.

It has been reported that unemployment is at a three year low, with the jobless rate now at 8.5%.

Employment has begun to boost in some areas of the country, and unemployment has dropped by 0.2% in a matter of months.

Over one and a half million jobs were available last year and, based on the latest figures, the growth looks set to rise in 2012.

A recent article on Yahoo has highlighted unemployment figures across the US.

The US unemployment rate is currently around 9%. Recent data, sourced from Indeed.com, has highlighted some of the toughest areas to find work in. It suggests that Miami is the hardest area to find employment – with an average of over four people applying for every one job that is posted.

L.A, Las Vegas and Detroit are amongst the top five hard-to-find-work areas.

The data suggests that San Jose is the best place to find a job – with an average of two job postings per applicant.

Walmart is focusing on internet employees to help its online growth.

Their internet department will be focusing on social media and smartphone data and harnessing it to boost Walmart’s online sales.

Reports from Internet Retailer publication indicate that Walmart is the 6th largest internet retailer – but we’re sure they are going to be aiming to catch up with other giants on the list including Amazon.

During the festive period people gather to exchange gifts and thoughtful presents but apparently that could change this year.

A recent survey suggested Americans would rather receive cash than Christmas goods.

The survey, carried out by Western Union, asked people if they would prefer to receive a $50 gift or $50 in cash. 83% of the people asked said they would prefer cash and 42% said they would spend it on every day amenities.

Recent figures suggest that employers across the United States are still hesitant to hire new staff.

Unemployment was at 8.6% in November although, according to the Labor Department, the amount of people putting in for jobless claims has decreased.

It’s thought an extension on payroll tax cuts will encourage employers to begin hiring again and bring in new staff and it’s hoped it will also encourage consumers to spend.

It’s now suggested that the US job market is resembling Europe’s – with temporary positions available and very little permanent work.

America has always been known for its flexible labour market but has this now changed? The jobless rate was reported a few months ago as being stuck at 9.1% so what does this mean for the world’s biggest economy?

With employers becoming tighter and more cautious with expenditure it suggests the labour market will take some time before it recovers to how it used to be.

With the holiday season well and truly here shops across the US prepared for Black Friday by opening early and stocking up. The day after Thanksgiving sets the tone for holiday shopping habits and retailers have already seen a big boost in consumer numbers this season – apparently the amount of shoppers has increased by 10% from last year.

Walmart, Macy’s and Kohls were among some of the retailers that opened early in anticipation of the crowds. Malls and stores across America opened their doors to even busier crowds than anticipated. An estimated 10, 000 shoppers waited outside Macy’s store in New York and an estimated 150 million people are expected to shop over the weekend.
